DEWA’s Digital Tools Help Dubai Households Save Power and Water

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is using digital tools to help households reduce electricity and water usage. These tools provide real-time data, personalized advice, and comparisons with similar homes to encourage efficient consumption. The initiative aligns with DEWA’s summer campaign, “Expand Your Smart Choices This Summer,” aiming to promote sustainable living and lower carbon footprints.

Smart Living Initiative

DEWA’s Smart Living Initiative allows customers to monitor their bills, tariff brackets, and track electricity and water consumption daily, weekly, and monthly through a dashboard on DEWA’s smart app and website. This feature enables users to stay informed about their usage patterns and make adjustments to improve efficiency.

My Sustainable Living Programme

The My Sustainable Living Programme encourages customers to adopt sustainable lifestyles by turning data into meaningful actions. It includes a dashboard that lets customers compare their consumption with similar high-efficiency homes in their area, a dynamic profile that ensures accurate comparisons, tailored tips, and a step-by-step plan to guide conservation efforts. Monthly reports on electricity and water use are also provided to help customers assess their progress.

Consumption Assessment Tool

DEWA’s Consumption Assessment Tool enables residential customers to assess their electricity and water consumption effectively. Users fill out a smart questionnaire with details about their residence, the number of people, and the devices they use. They then receive a report that includes an analysis of consumption patterns and personalized tips on improving efficiency and reducing waste.

Additional Services and Features

DEWA offers several other services to assist customers in managing their consumption:

  • High Water Usage Alert: Instantly notifies customers of unusual consumption beyond the meter, helping to detect leaks early.
  • Away Mode: Allows customers to monitor their electricity and water use while traveling by providing daily or weekly data via email.

Tips for Managing Consumption

DEWA provides customers with practical tips to reduce waste and protect the environment:

  • Use insulation strips to seal openings and keep cool air inside the home.
  • Unplug appliances instead of keeping them in standby mode.
  • Set the thermostat to 24°C or higher.
  • Maintain the refrigerator thermostat at 4°C in the chilled section and -18°C in the freezer section.
  • Adopt smart irrigation to avoid waste from evaporation.
  • Run dishwashers and washing machines with a full load.
