Pakistan is set to significantly enhance its internet infrastructure with the addition of three high-capacity subsea cables: Africa-1, PEACE, and Makran Gulf Gateway (MGG-1). These new connections aim to provide faster, more reliable, and affordable internet services across the country, addressing the growing demand for digital connectivity.
The Africa-1 cable, landing in Karachi in February 2025, links Pakistan to key locations in the Middle East, Africa, and Europe. Meanwhile, the PEACE cable spans 15,000 km, connecting Pakistan with Kenya, Egypt, and France, improving data flow between Asia, Europe, and Africa. The MGG-1 cable, operated by Cybernet, will further strengthen Pakistan’s digital backbone, supporting internet reliability and affordability.
These projects are part of Pakistan’s broader digital strategy, which includes expanding mobile internet spectrum and preparing for 5G rollout. The new subsea cables are expected to increase bandwidth, reduce latency, and support the growing number of digital users, positioning Pakistan as a more connected and digitally advanced nation.
