The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) has launched a new service allowing UAE citizens to renew or replace their Emirates ID cards in just one step. The updated system streamlines the entire process, aligning it with UAE passport services, where the validity period of the card is automatically set according to the applicant’s age. This initiative comes under the second phase of the Zero Bureaucracy Programme.
According to the ICP, the simplified Emirates ID renewal and replacement service is part of its efforts to remove bureaucracy, upgrade smart services, and shorten customer procedures. The aim is to improve customer satisfaction, enhance quality of life, and strengthen the UAE’s international ranking in government services.
With the new smart system, citizens can now submit an application and pay fees in a single step, instead of going through multiple stages. The process has been made easier by removing unnecessary fields such as personal address, eliminating redundant data, and displaying the application form on one page, making the service faster and more efficient.
The updated Emirates ID application form now automatically sets the validity period based on age, similar to passport services. Citizens aged 21 and above will receive an ID valid for 10 years, while those under 21 will get a 5-year validity when applying for renewal. In the case of card replacement, the validity will remain tied to the existing card’s remaining duration. Applicants cannot make changes to the validity period when submitting their requests.
The ICP confirmed that these new Emirates ID renewal and replacement services are now available to citizens through its website and smart application, ensuring a faster and simpler customer experience.
