Ferrari’s new 849 Testarossa hybrid harkens back to the 1980s.

In Milan, Ferrari introduced the new four-wheel drive plug-in hybrid, which will take the place of the 2019 SF90 Stradale at the top of the lineup. There will also be a retractable-top “spider” variant of the new car. Together with three electric motors, the 4-liter, eight-cylinder, mid-rear mounted turbo engine produces 830 horsepower, which is 50 higher than the SF90 Stradale’s total of 1,050 horsepower. According to a statement from the business, it would have a top speed of more than 330 kilometers (205 miles) per hour.

First deliveries to customers are planned for the second and third quarters of next year, with Europe receiving the first deliveries. The 849 Testarossa’s starting price is 460,000 euros ($540,000) for the coupe and 500,000 euros for the spider variant. Due to import duties, deliveries to customers in the United States are anticipated to begin approximately three months later, at a higher cost. As part of a three-phase process that will culminate in a global debut next spring, Ferrari, under the leadership of CEO Benedetto Vigna, is introducing new models and getting ready to begin showcasing its first electric vehicle next month.

Ferrari’s heritage of roaring gasoline engines will be broken, but Vigna has reiterated that the business would still produce EVs, hybrid vehicles, and gasoline-powered vehicles. Based on the 2021 Ferrari 296—the company’s other hybrid model, which is already nearing the end of its life cycle—Ferrari debuted the new hybrid 296 Speciale and its convertible version in April. Ferrari also unveiled the all-electric Amalfi coupe in July as part of its usual ambitious schedule of new model launches, improving and replacing the 2019 Roma, which was a triumph in the entry-level market.
