Punjab introduces the first AI-powered “EcoBot” in Pakistan to track the quality of the air.

According to the Environment Protection Department Secretary, the AI-powered “EcoBot” was introduced to facilitate contact between the public and the agency and provide real-time air quality information. With a single SMS, citizens may now check the Air Quality Index (AQI) of key cities, including as Lahore, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, and Multan. According to officials, the EcoBot can communicate with users directly and use artificial intelligence. It will also encourage healthy lifestyle choices and provide advice on how to safeguard against air pollution. According to Environment Secretary Sajid Bashir, the government wants to use technology to develop creative digital solutions that would make Punjab cleaner and greener.

The first-ever SMART Environment Protection Force in Pakistan was formally established in April by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. This innovative program aims to address environmental concerns by utilizing technology and creativity. Using the social media site “X,” Maryam Nawaz announced the launch on April 21, 2025, calling it a “milestone in Punjab’s journey toward environmental improvement.” Modern equipment, such as mobile labs, real-time Air Quality Index (AQI) monitors, and drone shadowing, strengthens the SMART Environment Protection Force.
