Pete Davidson compares himself to Eddie Murphy

The comedians’ careers began on “Saturday Night Live.” Pete Davidson describes the renowned comedian as “insanely talented” and claims to see a lot of himself in Eddie Murphy. In a recent interview, the 31-year-old Bupkis actor paid tribute to Murphy, 64, stating that he not only respects Murphy but also has a deeper connection to him. Davidson told People, “I’ve been an Eddie Murphy fan since I was five or six.” “I just fell in love with stand-up, and my mom bought Delirious by mistake, thinking it was a movie.” It’s important to note that both comedians began their careers on Saturday Night Live.

Davidson began the show at age 20 and remained for eight seasons, from 2014 to 2022, while Murphy joined at age 19 and rose to become one of its biggest performers in the early 1980s. Davidson remarked, “The cool thing about Eddie is that we were both some of the youngest cast members ever.” We also share a lot of personal similarities. When we were young, both of our fathers died. That was a contributing factor in our decision to pursue comedy. Additionally, Davidson said that he appreciates Murphy’s advice because not many people share his perspective on his experience. “He understands it better than anyone else,” he remarked.

“I’m not claiming to have done what he has. He is far more gifted and successful, but it’s uncommon to receive guidance from someone who truly understands your situation. I consider myself fortunate.
