In Karachi, a driver receives five e-challans for the same infraction

The Karachi e-challan system is revealing one major problem after another. According to News Channel on Tuesday, a driver has now been fined five times in one day for failing to buckle up. Drivers are allegedly frustrated with the city’s e-challan system, since the man received five challan citations for the same infraction. Two fines were reported close to Hassan Square, and three were given on the Expressway and Maripur Road. According to records, the motorist was penalized three times on October 30 at noon and twice more at midnight at the same places.

The impacted driver, who works in the transportation industry, has appealed to higher authorities to remedy the five challans he received for the same infraction, which he claimed was unfair. The e-challan system was shown to have several faults before. For instance, on October 31, a motorcycle that had been stolen in Karachi four years prior received an e-challan for a traffic infraction. The owner claims that in 2020, the motorcycle was stolen from the Tariq Road area close to Tipu Sultan, and a formal report was filed at the Tipu Sultan Police Station. But the bike was never found, and the matter remained unresolved.

In a different instance, significant problems with Karachi’s electronic traffic challan (e-challan) system were discovered on October 30 after a citizen was fined incorrectly for a crime he did not commit. The e-challan for riding a motorcycle without a helmet in Teen Talwar, Clifton, was issued on October 27 at approximately 9:45 a.m. The impacted person, however, asserted that he was at his Scheme 33 residence at the time. According to reports, there were obvious inconsistencies in the e-challan that was provided based on a car’s license plate. The alphanumeric registration indicated was entirely different from the image printed on the e-challan, which showed a single license plate. Furthermore, the official records did not match the data for the two license plates.
