Sulakshana Pandit, a Bollywood actress and vocalist, dies

Following a cardiac episode, the 71-year-old passed away. Yesterday, Bollywood lost another legend. Famous Indian playback vocalist and film diva Sulakshana Pandit died on November 6 following a protracted illness. She was seventy-one. According to her brother, music composer Lalit Pandit, Sulakshana passed away in Mumbai. Around 7:00 p.m., she died from cardiac arrest. She appeared quite ill and had complained of dyspnea. She passed away before we could go to Nanavati Hospital, he told PTI. The actor was born in Raigarh, Chhattisgarh, on July 12, 1954. His film credits include Dharam Kanta and Kasam Khoon Ki.

Her family’s musical background is well-known. Her uncle was the renowned Pandit Jasraj, and her brothers were the composer Dup Jatin-Lalit. When Sulakshana was just nine years old, her singing career got off. She sung the duet Saat Samandar Paar Se with Lata Mangeshkar for the movie Taqdeer. Her success was further solidified in 1975 with the song Tu Hi Sagar Hai Tu Hi Kinara from Sankalp (1975). In addition, she collaborated with actor Uttam Kumar in the Bengali film Bandie (1978).
