A fictitious bank agent is imprisoned by the court for stealing Dh8,000

A man was imprisoned, fined, and deported for posing as a bank agent. Dubai: After stealing Dh8,000 from an employee by pretending to be a bank representative and saying the victim needed to “update his banking details,” an Asian man was sentenced to a month in prison. After serving his term, the Dubai Court of Misdemeanors ordered his deportation and penalized him the entire sum of the theft. The investigation began in February when an Arab employee reported to the police that Dh8,000 had been taken out of his bank account and that he had been cheated. According to News Paper, the plaintiff informed detectives that he had received a call from the defendant claiming that the bank needed to update his personal information in order to save his account from being frozen. The victim gave his personal information, including his bank account number, credit card information, and Emirates ID, since he thought the call was legitimate. He was given a one-time password (OTP) during the call, per the caller’s request. The employee was notified shortly after sharing it that Dh8,000 had been taken out of his account and moved to a local exchange house-issued card. He called the cops right away.

According to a police officer’s testimony, the culprit was identified and taken into custody by detectives. The individual denied any involvement when questioned, saying that someone of a different nationality had previously seized his ID card under the guise of helping him find employment and may have opened the account without his knowledge. The court, however, dismissed this defense. In its ruling, it stated that the inquiry unequivocally demonstrated that the defendant had created the exchange-house account on his own and had made two purchases with the pilfered money. After finding him guilty, the court sentenced him appropriately.
