Following a collision, Dubai Police found drugs on the driver, who was fined and banned

Following what appeared to be a minor collision, police discovered narcotics on a driver. Dubai: Officers frequently come upon an automobile that was crumpled up against a metal barrier. However, rather than the damage, it was the driver’s vacant expression that indicated something was gravely wrong as Dubai Police examined the collision. The 23-year-old Asian man appeared to be oblivious to the mayhem surrounding him as he stood next to his car. His unfocused eyes, slow reactions, and behavior that was very different from that of a normal driver shocked by an accident were documented in police records. Emarat Al Youm stated that officers believed the incident entailed more than just a mere inattention. Their intuition was right.

They discovered little pieces of paper soaked with drugs hidden in his clothes during a precautionary inspection. What started out as a car accident swiftly evolved into a drug investigation. The General Department of Forensic Evidence received the driver. A biological sample was taken with permission from the Public Prosecution to verify that narcotics were present in his system. After being submitted to prosecutors, he acknowledged using drugs, driving while intoxicated, damaging the metal barrier, and having the confiscated items for his own use. He acknowledged using drugs and driving while intoxicated, but he tried to backtrack on part of his confession in court by denying having the papers soaked in drugs.

Citing police records and forensic evidence as “sufficient and reassuring proof” of all charges, the court dismissed his petition. In a landmark decision, the court fined him Dh25,000, suspended his driver’s license for a year, and imposed a two-year ban on transferring or depositing money on behalf of others following the completion of his sentence, unless approved by the UAE Central Bank in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior.
