The opponent for John Cena’s retirement match at SNME has been confirmed

At Saturday Night’s Main Event, Cena and Gunther will square off in the ring for the first time. On December 13, John Cena will fight Gunther in his final match at WWE’s Saturday Night Main Event. On the December 5 broadcast of SmackDown, the “Ring General” won the title by defeating LA Knight in the “Last Time is Now” tournament final. It is scarcely surprising that Gunther was chosen as Cena’s last opponent given his standing as one of the best pure wrestlers in WWE. He was the clear favorite to win the 16-man, month-long competition after being long-rumored for the position.

Having defeated Goldberg in his last bout at the same event in July, Gunther has a track record of ending the careers of WWE icons on a strong note. It will be Cena and Gunther’s first-ever fight in the ring. While the 17-time WWE Champion may try to wrap up his legendary run with a final triumph over the “Ring General,” Gunther will have the opportunity to finish Cena’s career with a spectacular victory. Knight and Gunther engaged in a championship-level fight on Friday Night SmackDown, with Cena’s retirement obviously at stake. Gunther locked Knight in a Rear-Naked Choke following a heated argument.

After Knight momentarily escaped, Gunther used a Modified STF to subdue him once more, delivering Cena a clear message. Knight bravely resisted, but in the end, he gave in, giving Gunther the opportunity to establish his supremacy and prepare for his confrontation with Cena. Since making his WWE debut in 2002, Cena has been a pillar of the organization, producing innumerable memorable matches and moments that fans all around the world adore. With Gunther as his final opponent, the “Never Seen 17” will now make his last bow. The WWE Universe is now anticipating what should be an emotional farewell to one of the biggest names in wrestling.
