A guy who damaged an eye test machine is ordered to pay Dh70,000 by an Abu Dhabi court

After destroying equipment and entering the exam room without authorization, the court finds the patient guilty. Dubai: After damaging a high-precision eye test device during a regular appointment, a man was sentenced to compensate a medical center Dh70,000. After the guy entered the eye-testing room without authorization and tried to operate the machine himself, the Abu Dhabi Civil Family and Administrative Court decided that he was responsible for the expense. Arabic newspaper said that the medical center filed a legal complaint seeking Dh60,000 for the repair of the broken device and Dh198,000 for lost revenue as a result of the machine’s outage.

According to the center, a microscope-based optical instrument malfunctioned because the patient entered the eye-examination room alone after finishing his session. The center filed a police report and recorded the occurrence. In the criminal proceeding, the individual was later fined Dh10,000 for causing property damage. The center had not submitted any official invoices, quotes, or technical studies to support the alleged harm, therefore the court denied its claim for repair costs and lost wages. According to the ruling, financial claims must be backed up by convincing proof and cannot be founded on unsubstantiated statements.

Consequently, the court concluded that the medical center had not met the necessary burden of proof for extra damages, limiting its decision to the Dh70,000 ordered.
