Longtime admirers of Jennifer Lawrence and the Hunger Games are getting excited about Maya Hawke. The Stranger Things actress hinted at Jennifer Lawrence’s comeback to the dystopian film series during a Thursday visit on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. She verified that Lawrence would play Katniss Everdeen again in the upcoming prequel movie Sunrise on the Reaping. The 27-year-old celebrity revealed that her career was greatly impacted by Lawrence’s performance.
“I want to be an actor in large part because of Jennifer Lawrence’s performance in the first four films. She described how she saw Lawrence’s last movie, Die My Love, in Germany while filming Sunrise on the Reaping. “She’s amazing,” she said. “I’m just such a big fan of hers, so to be anywhere near that franchise means the world to me,” said Hawke, who will play Wiress in the movie. Hawke paused for a moment before nodding in response to Fallon’s question about Lawrence’s official return. Is it okay for us to say that? “Do people know?” she inquired. Fallon shot back, “They know now!”
The plot of Sunrise on the Reaping, which is based on Suzanne Collins’ 2025 book of the same name, revolves around Haymitch Abernathy during the Second Quarter Quell, or the 50th Hunger Games. On November 20, 2026, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is scheduled to open in theaters.
