Reese Witherspoom reveals con artists posing as her online

Reese Witherspoon, an American actress and film producer, warned fans that she would “never” try to manipulate or swindle anyone after learning that con artists have been posing as her online. The actress explicitly addressed the matter in a TikTok video posted from her official account on Wednesday, January 14. She called the video a widespread social media scam after it attracted a lot of attention. In a video, Witherspoon said, “Hey, this is important.” I just wanted to let you know what I’ve been going through over the last 24 hours. She clarified that several phony identities on Instagram and TikTok have been impersonating her and contacting people in private.

The Morning Show personality claims that these imposters try to establish a personal connection with gullible users by sending direct messages. According to Witherspoon, the con artists then attempt to “extract personal information, plan meet-up times” while posing as her. “I want you to know this is not me,” she said to the audience, outlining her stance. “It’s so upsetting that people would use my name to manipulate people,” she continued. However, I want you to know that I would never, ever try to control you. The Oscar winner emphasized that she would never get in touch with fans to set up meetings or request money or personal information. Before answering any messages purporting to be from her, she advised fans to thoroughly verify whether accounts are authentic.

“This is not just me, this is happening across the board, but it’s really upsetting to me that this is happening on such a large scale,” she said, urging supporters to remain vigilant. “I would never manipulate you,” Witherspoon wrote in the post’s title, reiterating her point. Kindly verify. As other public people confront similar challenges, she sends a warning. After Sandra Bullock disclosed in February 2025 that scammers had been posing as her sister, Gesine Bullock-Prado, prompting safety worries, she is the most recent famous person to speak out against internet impersonation schemes. Witherspoon addressed her supporters directly in an effort to prevent them from being duped and to increase awareness of the prevalence and harm caused by these imitation frauds.
