Following the 2022 Houthi attack, a seminar highlights the strength and togetherness of the UAE.
Abu Dhabi: As part of its continuous efforts to draw attention to important national concerns, the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR) on Wednesday held a seminar at its headquarters titled “January 17: Resolve and Determination.” The seminar examined the significance of Emirati resilience and commitment in light of the horrific Houthi attack on the United Arab Emirates on January 17, 2022.
Major General Staff Pilot Saleh Mohammed bin Majren Al Ameri, Commander of the National Guard, gave a keynote speech on behalf of the Ministry of Defense. He claimed that January 17 has evolved into a crucial day in the history of the United Arab Emirates, not as a day of danger but rather as a representation of will and drive. He continued by saying that on that day, the United Arab Emirates underlined that its security is a red line, based on a robust and integrated system headed by astute leadership characterized by vision and resolve, safeguarded by its heroic military forces, and bolstered by a watchful and conscious populace.
Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Federal National Council’s Defense, Interior, and Foreign Affairs Committee; Dr. Sultan Mohammed Al Nuaimi, Director General of ECSSR; and Lt. General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Chairman of Dubai Police and Public Security, participated in a panel discussion at the seminar. Lt. General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim stated in his speech that the smart leadership’s tough and measured response, along with a policy of complete transparency that reassured the public and prevented attempts to disrupt daily life, were the most crucial factors in stopping the terrorist attack. He commended the tremendous sense of national solidarity displayed in favor of the leadership.
He emphasized that the UAE would never regret the sacrifices made for Yemen, adding that the country entered Yemen at the request of its legitimate government to combat Houthi rebels and returned honorably after liberating large areas and restoring them to their people. According to Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, the way the events of January 17 were handled demonstrated the UAE’s high degree of preparedness to face difficulties, backed by a robust institutional framework that upholds the greatest standards of professionalism. Additionally, he emphasized the nation’s approach to fostering unity and cohabitation both domestically and internationally.
Dr. Sultan Mohammed Al Nuaimi emphasized the importance of education in fostering national cohesion and stated that January 17 will continue to play a significant role in the UAE’s collective memory and sense of identity. Many officials, specialists, researchers, and interested parties attended the conference.
