According to a rescue worker, the bodies of those who perished in the Gul Plaza fire in Karachi were reduced to ashes and left unrecognizable. A social welfare organization spokesperson told News Channel that the bodies of the victims of the fire were discovered in a highly decomposed state.
He revealed the sobering facts that only fragmentary remains, including hands and feet, could be recovered in a number of cases. Many bodies were found completely burned, he claimed, when the fire was contained and rescue personnel entered the structure. Some were discovered completely burned, while others had crumbled and left only pieces. The rescue worker also said that one of the victims was the body of a small child, thought to be between two and a half and three years old. He stated there were burn marks on the infant’s back and that it seemed like the child had suffocated to death. At least 21 dead have been found at the scene thus far, according to rescue officials.
Deputy Commissioner Karachi South Javed Nabi Khoso stated that on Tuesday (today), search activities will be conducted within the Gul Plaza, which was affected by the fire. The DC South told the reporters that 18 of the 20 bodies that have been found so far have been identified. There are currently 83 names on the list of missing people, he continued. About 40% of the Gul Plaza building has collapsed, he said, adding that the search and rescue effort is still ongoing. The remaining sections are quite delicate, according to specialists from the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA). He asked traders to avoid the red zone and to work with the administration.
