Following the Gul Plaza fire disaster, Karachi markets have increased their fire safety protocols

KARACHI: More than 200 fire safety extinguishers have been placed throughout Karachi’s business districts in the wake of the terrible Gul Plaza disaster. According to information, market organizations have become more proactive and started implementing fire safety measures in various marketplaces to assist prevent future fire-related crises after receiving notices from the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA). In accordance with established operating protocols, fire safety extinguishers are being erected in every market, according to the president of the Karachi Mobile and Electronics Dealers Association. He added that emergency steps are being taken to guarantee the safety of traders. The administration has increased its activity since the tragic event in Karachi last week.

These fire safety measures are intended to guarantee prompt action in the case of an emergency. In the meantime, surveys of structures in three city districts were carried out by the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA), which found that about 90% of the buildings lacked adequate fire safety measures. In the Eastern, Central, and Southern districts, fire audits have been conducted in both residential and commercial buildings. More than 300 buildings with inadequate fire safety measures have received notifications from the SBCA, giving them three days to make the necessary preparations. The majority of high-rise buildings lacked adequate emergency exits, and fire safety equipment in a number of structures was discovered to be non-operational, according to SBCA sources.

The authority also stated that emergency evacuation routes were discovered to be obstructed in several buildings. Firefighters accompanied SBCA special teams during the survey.
