A small earthquake was detected close to Sur on Oman’s eastern coast. Dubai: A mild earthquake measuring 2.2 on the Richter scale was reported in the Sea of Oman on Wednesday evening, according to the Earthquake Monitoring Centre at Sultan Qaboos University. According to statistics from the center, the earthquake happened at 10:19 p.m. local time and was roughly 23 kilometers northeast of the seaside city of Sur. The 33-kilometer depth at which the earthquake occurred suggests that it was a deep-seated seismic event.
The tremor is thought to have presented minimal threat to coastal populations, and no damage or casualties were reported. Due to local geological movements, Oman frequently suffers low-magnitude seismic activity, the majority of which go unnoticed by the public.
