Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar confirms news via social media
LAHORE: The Punjab School Education Department has announced that summer vacations for all public and private schools in the province will be extended.
According to a notification issued on Thursday, schools that were set to reopen on August 14 will now remain closed until September 1.
The notification stated: “In place of the earlier order dated 20.07.2025, the Competent Authority has approved extending summer vacations until 31.08.2025. All public and private schools in Punjab will reopen on 01.09.2025.”
Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar also shared this update through a post on social media.
This decision follows the early start of summer vacations on May 28 due to an intense heatwave. The extreme temperatures had earlier forced a change in school timings, with classes ending at 11:30am to safeguard students from the heat.
Such disruptions to the academic calendar are not new for Punjab. Last year, schools were shut for a week in May due to extreme heat and for several weeks in November because of hazardous smog affecting multiple cities.
Meanwhile, in Sindh, schools have already reopened. The Sindh government had announced in May that summer vacations for all educational institutions would run from June 1 to July 31.
A notification obtained by Geo News stated: “As per the decision made in the sub-committee meeting of the steering committee on education on November 28, 2024, summer vacations for all public and private institutions under the School Education & Literacy Department will be observed from June 1 to July 31 for the academic year 2025.”
