Most Muslim countries are expected to look for the crescent moon marking the start of Ramadan 2026 on Tuesday, February 17, but astronomers say the moon will not be visible that evening.
According to astronomical experts, the moon will be too close to the sun to be seen anywhere in the Arab and Islamic world, even with telescopes. As a result, countries that depend on confirmed moon sighting are likely to complete 30 days of Shaaban, with Ramadan beginning on Thursday, February 19.
Visibility conditions are expected to improve on Wednesday, February 18, making it possible to sight the crescent under clear skies in many regions, including the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
