Mumbai: Manoj Bajpayee is playing the lead role in Netflix India’s upcoming film ‘Ghosh Khoor Pandit’ (Bribery-eating Pandit), and within hours of its teaser being released at an event in Mumbai, the film has become the subject of a huge controversy on social media. The teaser introduced Manoj Bajpayee’s character as “a corrupt police officer”, but the title of the film has sparked a strong reaction, with many users calling it insensitive and insulting. Many viewers have objected to the use of the word ‘Pandit’ and said that it is linking corruption to a specific community, resulting in casteism in mainstream entertainment. A wide-ranging debate has erupted over representation. As soon as the teaser was released, there was a flood of critical reactions on X (formerly Twitter), where users accused the platform and the filmmakers of promoting stereotypes. One user wrote that Netflix would never dare to make a title like Ghosh Khor Chamar, Ghosh Khor Yadav or Ghosh Khor Paswan, but in India it is considered easy to target Brahmin identity. Neeraj Pandey and Manoj Bajpayee should be ashamed that they are targeting their own community. Another post said, “Shame on Manoj Bajpayee, we all know that such titles become a norm in daily life.” Several users also demanded action, one wrote, “Netflix India, change this title immediately or face a boycott.” Another comment was something like this: “This name should be changed as soon as possible. It seems like targeting a specific community.” This was not expected from Netflix. “Ghoshkhor Pandit” is the latest collaboration between Netflix India and filmmaker Neeraj Pandey, who had earlier made “Khaki: The Bihar Chapter” and its sequel. The film is part of Netflix India’s 2026 content lineup. The story revolves around a corrupt police officer named Ajay Dixit, played by Manoj Bajpayee, who is known as “Pandit”.
