See the breathtaking sights as the world’s tallest bridge opens in China.

China’s latest bridge, which spans 2,890 meters with a core span of 1,420 meters, breaks the mountain record. China has officially opened the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge, a stunning architectural achievement that spans 625 meters above the Beipan River gorge in Guizhou province and is now acknowledged as the highest bridge in the world measured from deck to ground. The construction, which is 2,890 meters long overall with a 1,420-meter central span, is also the greatest span bridge in a mountainous area. As part of the Liuzhi–Anlong Expressway, it was constructed in just three years (work started in 2022) with the goal of revolutionizing connection in this untamed area.

The crossing required a two-hour detour prior to its commissioning. That trip is cut to just two minutes now that the bridge is open to traffic, marking a significant improvement in efficiency. Additionally, the bridge surpasses the previous height record holder, the Duge Bridge (565 m clearance), which is situated upstream on the same river. Residents, engineers, and municipal politicians came together to commemorate the milestone during the opening ceremony. Guizhou, known as “the world’s bridge museum” due to its abundance of high-altitude bridges, adds another iconic structure to its skyline. With its 207-meter sightseeing lift, sky cafés, and viewing platforms that provide dizzying views of the canyon below, the Huajiang Bridge is being marketed as a tourist destination in addition to its transportation role.

This mega-bridge is a monument to China’s growing proficiency in severe engineering in difficult terrains as the country continues its ambitious infrastructure push.
