On what would have been Kirk’s 32nd birthday, US President Donald Trump announced the revocations as he posthumously presented Kirk with the US’s highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom. The agency stated on X that “the United States has no obligation to host foreigners who wish death on Americans.” It identified the countries of residence of those whose visas were revoked: South Africa, Argentina, Mexico, Brazil, Germany, and Paraguay. The State Department claims that in one post, an Argentinean accused Kirk of “spreading racist, xenophobic, misogynistic rhetoric.” The department claims that another individual wrote in German, “Democrats don’t complain when fascists die.”
According to the State Department, visa holders who allegedly celebrated Kirk’s murder at a Utah university gathering last month are still being tracked down. The United States will take action against foreigners who were “praising, rationalizing, or making light” of Kirk’s murder, it had already warned. The Trump administration has been pursuing a broad immigration crackdown since January, which has included increased social media monitoring, canceling thousands of student visas, and attempting to extend the validity of others. During their visit at the White House on Tuesday, US President Donald Trump reaffirmed his support for Argentina’s president, Javier Milei.
