Taylor Swift’s New Song ‘Wood’ Sparks Buzz Over Travis Kelce References

Travis Kelce Reacts to Taylor Swift’s Playful Lyrics with Humor

Taylor Swift has stirred excitement online with her latest single, Wood, from her new album The Life of a Showgirl.

Fans and media outlets are buzzing with speculation that the song playfully references her fiancé, NFL star Travis Kelce.

Known for her personal storytelling, Swift delivers some of her boldest lyrics yet in this track, sparking widespread conversation across social media and news platforms.

The pre-chorus has drawn particular attention: “Forgive me, it sounds c-y / He ah-matized me / And opened my eyes / Redwood tree / It ain’t hard to see / His love was the key / That opened my thighs.”

Although Swift hasn’t confirmed the song is about Kelce, many listeners see the connection clearly, and even sports media is joining the discussion.

Bill Simmons, CEO of The Ringer, joked on The Bill Simmons Podcast that Wood should be Kelce’s new nickname.

“We were just calling him Wood the whole game. It was very enjoyable. It’s like, ‘Mahomes, get it to Wood!’ This clearly should be his nickname,” Simmons said.

During her appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Swift laughed when asked about the song.

“I wanted it to sound timeless,” she said, blushing. “It started out in a very innocent place… I don’t know what happened, man. I got in there, we started vibing, and I don’t know how we got there. But I love this song so much.”

On the New Heights podcast, Jason Kelce teased his brother about the song. “Do you feel cocky?” he asked. Travis responded, “Any song that she references me in is… I love that girl.”

Jason added, “That’s not just any song… it’s an appendage,” prompting Travis to smirk and reply, “I think you’re not understanding the song.”

Taylor Swift once again proves her talent for turning personal moments into cultural conversations, keeping fans and media talking.

Shawn Mendes, Tia Wood Deliver Emotional Performance of ‘Youth’ in Vancouver Shawn Mendes Celebrates Indigenous Voices Ahead of Indigenous Peoples’ Day Shawn Mendes used his October 12 concert in Vancouver to send a powerful message of unity and healing. He was joined on stage by rising Cree/Salish artist Tia Wood for a special performance of his 2018 hit, Youth.

Before inviting Wood to the stage, Mendes spoke about the impact of Indigenous communities he has met around the world.

“My words will fall short when describing how healing and beautiful it is, and how much we have to learn from Indigenous people,” he said, earning loud cheers. He called Wood “very special” and welcomed her to perform.

Wood, from the Saddle Lake Cree Nation on Treaty 6 territory, has been gaining recognition in music. She appeared at Billboard Canada Women in Music 2024 and saw success with her track Sky High.

During the duet, Wood added a moving verse honoring missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls: “Where do I start?/ How do I say it?/ My voice is so tired and I cannot fake it…”

She was joined by her father, Earl Wood, founder of the renowned powwow group Northern Cree, who contributed traditional vocals and percussion to the acoustic set.

The performance came just a day before Indigenous Peoples’ Day in the U.S. and shortly after Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Day.

Mendes later shared on Instagram, “This is Canada,” while Wood wrote, “I spoke my truth and tried to represent the best way I could. Spoke about our missing relatives.”

Fans responded with emotion online, praising the representation. Mendes, known for using his platform to promote unity, told the crowd, “We have to bring more love, acceptance, unity. When you’re all singing like this, those divides are not here.”

Wood echoed the message, dedicating the performance to “rez babies everywhere.”

“I spoke my truth and tried to represent the best way I could. Spoke about our missing relatives,” she said on Facebook. “Aiyhiy Shawn for the opportunity.”
