Bulawayo: England defeated Australia by 27 runs in the first semi-final of the ICC Under-19 World Cup to qualify for the final.
Chasing a target of 277 runs, the entire Australian team returned to the pavilion after scoring 250 runs in 47.3 overs. Even captain Oliver Peck’s brilliant century could not work. Nitish Samuel scored 47 runs and Aryan Sharma scored 34 runs. Earlier, in the first semi-final of the ICC Under-19 World Cup held in Bulawayo, the English Under-19 cricket team won the toss and decided to bat first against Australia and scored 277 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the stipulated 50 overs. Captain Thomas Reeve played a brilliant innings of 110 runs for England, Caleb Faulkner scored 40, Joseph Moores scored 25, Ben Mays scored 24 runs while Farhan Ahmed remained unbeaten with 28 runs. The second semi-final of the Under-19 World Cup will be played between India and Afghanistan in Harare tomorrow, while the final of the event is scheduled for February 6 in Harare.
