Chloe Tryon and Marizanne Kapp hit vital half-centuries to guide Proteas to a thrilling victory Visakhapatnam – South Africa edged past Bangladesh by three wickets to claim their third consecutive win in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 at the Dr Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium on Monday.
A strong bowling performance followed by key half-centuries from Marizanne Kapp and Chloe Tryon powered the Proteas to another hard-fought victory.
Chasing a target of 233, South Africa faced a tough contest but managed to cross the line with seven wickets down and just three balls to spare.
The experienced duo of Tryon and Kapp anchored the chase with crucial half-centuries before Nadine de Klerk sealed the win with an unbeaten 37 off 29 balls, including five boundaries and a six.
Tryon led the scoring with 62 from 69 balls, featuring six fours and a six, while Kapp added a solid 51 off 76 deliveries. Earlier, Laura Wolvaardt and Anneke Bosch contributed 31 and 28 respectively, sharing a 55-run partnership for the second wicket after South Africa were reduced to 3/1 in the second over.
Bangladesh’s Nahida Akter was the most effective bowler, taking two wickets for 44 runs in 9.3 overs, while Rabeya Khan and Fahima Khatun picked up one wicket each.
Batting first, Bangladesh posted 232/6 in their 50 overs, led by half-centuries from Shorna Akter and Sharmin Akhter.
Shorna top-scored with an unbeaten 51 off 35 balls, smashing three sixes and three fours, while Sharmin made 50 from 77 deliveries with six boundaries. Captain Nigar Sultana added 32, while openers Fargana Hoque (30) and Rubya Haider (25) struggled to accelerate, consuming 128 balls between them.
For South Africa, Nonkululeko Mlaba took two wickets, while de Klerk and Tryon claimed one each.
This three-wicket triumph marks South Africa’s third straight win in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, moving them to third place on the points table with six points from four matches. Bangladesh remain sixth with two points from two games.
