Patna: The Special Vigilance Unit (SVU) of the Bihar government has stepped up its fight against corruption and taken significant action in the district of Araria. A revenue employee was apprehended on Tuesday while taking a Rs. 15,000 bribe.

Arrest

Imteyaz Alam, who works in the Farhi Panchayat in the Narpatganj block, has been identified as the arrested official.

Pankaj Kumar Darad, Additional Director General of Police (SVU), claims that Kamleshwari Yadav’s allegation prompted the action. The complainant claimed that Alam was requesting Rs 15,000 to update his name and land area records online. Verification revealed that the accused had explicitly stated that the corrections would not be made until the bribe was paid. A case was filed at the SVU police station following verification.

The trap was set

Deputy Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar Verma led a special raiding team that set up a trap and captured the culprit as he was taking the bribe.

Under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018), a case has been filed against Imteyaz Alam, and additional legal actions are in progress. The district’s revenue department and other government entities have taken notice of the arrest.

Over Rs2,000 in bribes led to the arrest of a clerk

In a different operation, Brijmohan Lal, a clerk assigned to the Sub-Divisional Hospital in the Daudnagar district of Aurangabad, was detained by the Patna Vigilance Investigation Bureau on Monday as he was taking a bribe of Rs2,000. The case concerns how attendance is recorded on holidays. A vigilance team under the command of Deputy Superintendent of Police Aditya Raj successfully executed a trap operation and apprehended the accused after verification confirmed the demand for a bribe.

Officials claim that this is the Vigilance Bureau’s tenth FIR for a corruption-related case filed in 2026. As part of its continuous crackdown, the Vigilance Bureau has apprehended seven suspects thus far this year.
