As an avalanche strikes the Sonamarg resort, flights are canceled. Videos from late Tuesday night show a massive snowfall over the Sonamarg tourist resort in Jammu and Kashmir. Despite how unsettling the videos may be, authorities reassure the public that no one has died as a result of the avalanche. The avalanche struck the resort on Tuesday at 10:12 p.m., according to PTI.
The president of Beopar Mandal Sonamarg, Furqan Shera, stated that no damage has yet been detected when the snowstorm struck the truck yard area. According to the Times of India, authorities had issued a warning on Monday about the potential for an avalanche. The city has seen moderate to heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours. Additionally, hundreds of people were left stranded after 58 scheduled flights at Srinagar airport, which serves the region, were canceled on Tuesday owing to dangerous weather.
In a same vein, there were disruptions to the train and highway services between Srinagar and Jammu. To handle any issues that may arise during this time, police and district administrations have established up control centers.
