Abu Dhabi Introduces Robosweeper Fleet to Keep Corniche Cleaner and Smarter

The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), part of the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), has launched a fleet of autonomous Robosweeper vehicles on the Abu Dhabi Corniche to boost urban cleanliness and environmental sustainability.

Developed by K2 subsidiary Autogo under the supervision of the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council, the project reflects Abu Dhabi’s vision for smart, innovative, and sustainable city management.

The Robosweepers use advanced sensors and modern navigation systems to provide high-precision cleaning and sanitisation services. They follow pre-programmed routes to clean roads and walkways without direct human control. Built for city spaces such as pavements, public squares, and pedestrian areas, these autonomous machines reduce the need for manual labour while maintaining high hygiene standards.

The initiative marks an important step in Abu Dhabi’s mission to build an integrated, technology-driven services system that supports efficiency, sustainability, and a better quality of life for residents and visitors.

Dr Saif Sultan Al Nasri, Acting Undersecretary at DMT, said the deployment of Robosweepers highlights Abu Dhabi’s proactive approach to adopting advanced technology in public services. “By introducing such innovations, we are shaping a future where smart solutions improve operational management and enhance community well-being,” he said. “This programme strengthens Abu Dhabi’s global reputation as a forward-looking and efficient capital.”

Dr Abdulla Hamad Al Ghfeli, Acting Director General of ITC, added that the launch reaffirms Abu Dhabi’s ongoing commitment to smart and eco-friendly solutions. “This project supports sustainable development, boosts operational efficiency, and aligns with international best practices,” he said. “It is a key step toward a unified system that enhances the environment, community health, and future generations’ quality of life.”

Sean Teo, Managing Director of K2, said: “We are honoured to work with ITC and Abu Dhabi Municipality on this pioneering initiative. The Robosweeper represents a major step forward in intelligent urban cleaning and robotics. We remain dedicated to investing in technologies that support Abu Dhabi’s smart city goals and meet community needs both today and in the future.”

This initiative is part of Abu Dhabi’s broader plan to elevate living standards, promote green technology, and strengthen its position as a global leader in sustainable urban development and transport innovation.
