Al Areen Reserve is renamed after Sheikh Mohamed in honor of UAE-Bahraini connections

The action acknowledges his contribution to fortifying relations between the two countries. In honor of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain ordered that Al Areen Wildlife Reserve be renamed Mohammed bin Zayed Nature Reserve on the 54th Union Day of the United Arab Emirates. The action acknowledges his contribution to deepening relations between the two countries and his unwavering support for Bahrain.

The 4-square-kilometer Al Areen species Reserve was created in 1976 to protect Arabian species, such as the Bahraini and Arabian oryx. The park’s visitor-friendly zoological portion, which features both domestic and foreign animals, is combined with conservation initiatives. Highlights for visitors and conservation contains rare and endangered species from South Asia, Africa, and Bahrain. The park saw 140,436 visitors in 2010—a seven-fold increase from 2000. serves as a zoological park and a protected nature reserve. Bahrain’s admiration for Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed’s leadership and the long-standing fraternal connections between Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates are reflected in the name.
