The warning comes after a spell of severe traffic this morning brought on by many collisions. Dubai: Following a series of multiple-vehicle collisions that caused extensive disruption this morning along important commuter routes in Dubai and Sharjah, Dubai Police issued a lane discipline reminder early on Wednesday, advising drivers to maintain appropriate speeds and permit faster vehicles to pass safely. In an effort to improve traffic flow and lower the likelihood of collisions on key thoroughfares, the advise, which was posted on X (previously Twitter), emphasized how important it is to stay in the proper lane in compliance with the posted speed restrictions.
In real time Multiple occurrences along the Sharjah Ring Road in Industrial Area 15 and individual crashes on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road near Industrial Area 13 and Al Khan Street, also in the Industrial Area, were shown by Google Maps traffic data. Meanwhile, crashes on both sides of the border had a significant impact on traffic heading to Dubai. According to Google Maps data, there were several car crashes on Al Ittihad Street in the Al Mamzar neighborhood, which caused major tailbacks for commuters heading from Sharjah to Dubai. Additional incidents were reported in Dubai on Al Khaleej Street in Bur Dubai and Damascus Street in the Al Qusais Industrial Area.
Authorities regularly point to abrupt lane changes and failing to stay to the right on high-speed routes as significant causes of traffic accidents and congestion throughout the Emirates. A fundamental component of UAE traffic law is the police advise to “maintain your lane according to speed and allow faster vehicles to pass safely,” especially when it comes to guaranteeing the unrestricted flow of traffic in the designated overtaking lanes. The prompt message from Dubai Police emphasizes how difficult it is still to control traffic in the northern Emirates during rush hour. As officials try to clear the accident scenes, drivers are advised to give themselves plenty of extra time when planning their routes and to pay attention to all official traffic advisories.
