High-level meeting on IT and telecom reforms is chaired by Ishaq Dar.

In order to support IT and telecom reforms and the expansion of the nation’s digital economy, the session sought to develop digital infrastructure, encourage innovation, and draw in key investments. The session was attended by important players, including Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa, senior officials from the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), and secretaries from the law, IT, commerce, and privatization ministries. Enhancing national connection, creating a business-friendly atmosphere, and advancing IT and telecom reform initiatives with international best practices and standards were the main topics of discussion.

Presenting Pakistan’s full digital capabilities is essential for sustainable economic development, according to Deputy PM Ishaq Dar, who emphasized the need of releasing the nation’s digital potential. Participants discussed investment proposals that focus on supporting new ideas and helping with digital developments. In order to increase technology exports, develop digital skills, strengthen IT and telecom reforms, and integrate e-governance solutions, the summit emphasized the significance of having robust policies and agency collaboration. Prior to this, Pakistan’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) strategy was developed in a thorough way following consultations, according to Minister of Information Technology Shaza Fatima. She stated that the administration will concentrate on its execution and implementation while speaking at an event in Islamabad on Wednesday.

According to Shaza Fatima, in order to move the nation ahead on the path of progress and development, we must embrace technology. There is currently no AI-specific regulatory framework in Pakistan; nonetheless, the ministry has taken a number of steps to address the possible issues related to the use of AI, including laws, norms, policies, etc.
