Police claim that after a loader driver’s tip made the case public, the suspects threw ashes in a river. A retired railway worker is wanted by Uttar Pradesh police for allegedly killing his live-in partner, burning her body inside a metal trunk, and disposing of the ashes in a river to eliminate evidence. The woman, named as 35-year-old Preeti, was allegedly killed in Jhansi earlier this month, according to NDTV. According to investigators, Ram Singh Parihar, the accused, burned her body inside a big blue trunk after wrapping it in a tarpaulin. According to the police, the remains were later gathered in sacks and dumped into a river, leaving burned pieces inside the box.
After a loader driver hired to move the trunk developed suspicions late on Saturday night, the matter came to light. When Jaysingh Pal, the driver, saw how the men were moving the trunk, he became concerned and called the police. At the accused’s second wife’s home, police allegedly discovered burnt human remains and pieces of bone when they pried open the box. According to the police, Parihar allegedly led a double life and was married twice, with each wife residing in a different part of Jhansi. Investigators have connected the murder to a disagreement in which the victim allegedly demanded money from the accused and had already stolen substantial amounts.
Two persons, including the accused’s son, were taken into custody while the primary suspect is still at large, according to the city’s superintendent of police, who told NDTV that the forensic team gathered evidence from the trunk. The general order of events has also been covered by other media. According to DNA India, which cited police, the trunk was moved in an effort to get rid of evidence, and the death is claimed to have happened around January 8. News18 also published a similar report that related the case to pressure to get married and a disagreement inside the cohabitation. Based on a complaint made by the victim’s ex-husband, police have opened a case and stated that any further action will be contingent upon forensic results and evidence gathered throughout the investigation.
