In a gothic horror movie, Sophie Turner and Kit Harington reconnect in romantic roles

Sophie Turner and Kit Harington

The Dreadful, a forthcoming gothic horror movie, will reunite former Game of Thrones co-stars Sophie Turner and Kit Harington as romantic protagonists. The project, which takes place against the backdrop of the Wars of the Roses in the fifteenth century, is a major change for the pair, who were well-known for their eight seasons as siblings Sansa Stark and Jon Snow. The film’s eerie atmosphere, which is marked by tense encounters and ghostly connotations, is first revealed in a recently released teaser.

Turner plays Anne in The Dreadful, a character who lives a solitary life on the periphery of society under the control of her controlling mother-in-law, Morwen (played by Academy Award winner Marcia Gay Harden). The return of Jago (Harington), a character from Anne’s past whose presence sets off a violent series of events involving old curses and emotional turmoil, serves as the story’s spark. According to reports, Turner personally sent Harington the script, which was crucial to the casting process. The actress later acknowledged, meanwhile, that she was initially unaware of how many amorous moments between their characters the screenplay called for. The “awkward” aspect of their on-screen shift has been openly discussed by both actors. Turner joked that their first on-screen kiss had them both “retching,” describing the experience of recording intimate sequences with Harington as “strange” and “vile” given their ten-year history as family members. Harington expressed similar thoughts, initially referring to the change as “very odd.” But in the end, he said, the project was a welcome opportunity because of their deep-rooted trust, saying that working with Turner was like “being with family.” The Dreadful, which is directed by Natasha Kermani, is marketed as an intense fusion of psychological horror and historical drama. On February 20, 2026, the movie will be released simultaneously online and in theaters.

Industry observers anticipate that both genre aficionados and the devoted Game of Thrones fan base will be very interested in the movie, keen to view the two in a very different light.
