Police file reports after a husband and a relative commit suicide following an elopement. A newlywed guy and a family member committed suicide in Karnataka’s Davangere district after the woman allegedly eloped with her lover only two to three months into their marriage, according to police and local media. The case prompted investigators to open additional cases and is currently under investigation. According to authorities, Harish, 30, married Saraswati from Gummanuru village about three months ago. Saraswati left home on January 23, claiming to be going to a shrine, but did not return. Her parents filed a missing persons report after her absence sparked concern.
Subsequent investigation revealed that Saraswati had eloped with her lover, Shivakumar, which shocked relatives and officials. Harish allegedly committed himself after finding that his wife had escaped with another man, leaving behind a claimed death note in which he listed those he blamed for the situation, according to police testimonies shared with The Indian Express. The horror didn’t stop there. Rudresh, Saraswati’s uncle and a family member who helped organize the marriage, is also said to have committed suicide after learning of Harish’s death. Police have filed two cases under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, highlighting the incident’s complexity and the involvement of several individuals.
Local authorities are continuing their investigation, which includes gathering witness testimony and checking digital communication records, as no arrests have been made in connection with the killings. The tragic sequence of events highlights persistent issues with familial strife and mental health responses in times of personal pain.
