Israel opens Rafah crossing after 2 years

Traffic on the road

Gaza: Israel has opened the Rafah crossing between Gaza and Egypt for pedestrians after two years. Yesterday, 50 Palestinians crossed from Gaza, while foreign journalists were not allowed to enter Gaza through the Rafah crossing. The opening of the Rafah crossing will allow 150 Palestinians to leave Gaza and fifty Palestinians to enter Gaza daily. Israel occupied the Rafah crossing in May 2024 and closed it to traffic. After Israel opened the Rafah border, thousands of sick and injured Palestinians are waiting to leave Gaza for urgent medical assistance. Late last night, Palestinians and their families under treatment at the Red Crescent hospital in Khan Yunis waited for the transfer of their loved ones, but Israel The army’s strict screening and checking process has made it difficult to transfer patients. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, 1,268 people died in Gaza while waiting for medical evacuation when the Rafah border was closed, and the number is expected to rise if more Palestinians are not allowed to leave immediately.
