James Hetfield of Metallica made a kind gesture to his late friend Cliff Burton

Cliff Burton sadly died in a bus accident in Sweden in 1986. James Hetfield recently honored Cliff Burton, a buddy who passed away. The Enter Sandman hitmakers are presently in Melbourne for a Saturday night performance at Marvel Stadium as part of the legendary band’s ongoing Australian tour. James went to Melbourne’s famous AC/DC Lane ahead of the much-anticipated show as a kind gesture to his friend, where a mural of the band’s original bassist was being finished. James can be seen standing triumphantly beside one of the mural’s artists on Metallica’s official Instagram page.

The names of the painters, Maid (Liquid Pastels) and Ling, were written in Metallica’s recognizable script on the mural, which featured Cliff against a backdrop of lightning. James wrote, “Visiting an old friend in Melbourne,” along with the comment, “Fantastic mural.” A founding member of Metallica, Cliff Burton contributed to the band’s first three studio albums, Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightning, and Kill ‘Em All. After he was tragically died in a bus accident in Sweden in 1986 while the band was touring, Jason Newsted took his position until 2001, when Robert Trujillo took over. Many Metallica fans praised the artwork and gushed about James Hetfield’s gesture in the comment sections.

“Even after nearly 40 years, the members of Metallica are still commemorating a lost brother in the most beautiful way,” a fan wrote. Another person remarked, “I genuinely respect them because they reminded us how important friendship is.”
