“The Gift of Love” is her eleventh nomination overall, but it’s also her first Christmas record and pop album. On a day of great personal significance, Jennifer Hudson received her most recent Grammy nomination. The Gift of Love, the 44-year-old singer and actress’s first holiday album and debut participation in the pop album category, earned her her ninth career nomination on Friday. The album received a nomination for the 68th Annual Grammy Awards’ Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album category. Hudson discussed the timeliness of the honor while speaking in the press room during the November 8 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.
She remarked, “I’m still living a dream; it’s blessed me.” “As a Christmas enthusiast, it is beyond my wildest hope to be recognized in that manner with the album that holds such special meaning for me. It was made even more memorable by the fact that it was also my late mother’s birthday. The Gift of Love, which was released in October 2024, marks Hudson’s return to the studio following a ten-year hiatus. She described it as “a project that was done with heart.”
Hudson was a member of the tribute lineup at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony on Saturday. “Being here, singing, and honoring all the greats and legends is always an honor,” she remarked. “To be able to do that is like a whole dream in my life.” Over her career, the vocalist has received two Grammy Awards. Her self-titled debut album won her Best R&B Album award in 2009. She and the original Broadway revival cast of The Color Purple, in which she played Shug Avery, split the Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album eight years later.
In October 2008, Darnell Donerson, Hudson’s mother, her 7-year-old nephew Julian, and Hudson’s brother Jason perished. William Balfour, Hudson’s ex-brother-in-law, is the gunman and has been sentenced to life in prison for the killings.
