After watching “Alien,” Lily James made a personal confession. Lily James has been open about why seeing Alien “stops in her tracks.” Fans may be aware that in the 1979 sci-fi horror classic, the actress’s grandmother, American actress Helen Horton, voiced Mother, the spaceship’s computer. James acknowledged in a recent PEOPLE Magazine article that she still gets shocked every time she watches Alien, and it’s not because of the horrific plot. James, 36, revealed in an interview with The Independent that she just rewatched the film and was inspired by Sigourney Weaver for a new part.
Every time I think, ‘My God, this is crazy,’ I just stop dead in my tracks. “That’s my grandmother!” she exclaimed. James said, “Her voice was magic,” in remembrance of Horton, who died in 2007 at the age of 83. She had a voice that was as lovely, rich, and almost British as all those famous cinema stars of the era. The Downton Abbey actress also disclosed that she brought up the information during a 2017 Baby Driver audition. She laughed and remarked, “I’ve only really used that card to impress [director] Edgar Wright.” “I’m not sure if you know, but my grandmother…” He found it really cool!
