Louis Tomlinson has shared how he manages life as both a dedicated father and a global music star.
In a recent interview, the former One Direction singer, who became a father to his son Freddie with then-girlfriend Briana Jungwirth in 2016, opened up about managing parenting alongside his musical career and public life.
He revealed that while work is important, spending quality time with his son is always his top priority.
“I’m pretty much playing full-time dad when I’m out there,” the 33-year-old singer-songwriter told The Independent. “I don’t do loads of work or even much socializing. Freddie is good as gold.”
Tomlinson splits his time between the UK and the United States, making sure that parenting comes first whenever he visits his son, who lives with his mother.
Reflecting on parenting, the Story of My Life singer admitted that waking up early is still a challenge for him.
Talking about school mornings, he joked that he is “the youngest dad there” and has “never been great at early starts.”
For context, Tomlinson became a father at just 24 years old in January 2016, but he has said that being a young dad never intimidated him.
In a previous appearance on The Diary of a CEO podcast, he shared, “I felt utterly confident. I felt like I was going to be a good dad. I really, really wanted to play that role.”
The former X Factor (UK) judge also emphasized protecting his son’s privacy.
“I’d like to say I’m pretty good with fan photos, I’ll take them eight times out of 10,” he said. “But whenever I’m with Freddie, there is a 1,000 per cent no chance—that is just not happening.”
Even as a fan favourite from his One Direction days, Tomlinson has always made sure his son’s life stays private.
