Pakistan’s anti-polio campaign’misses’ its aims

Sources claim that Punjab had the lowest coverage, at 97 percent, while Gilgit-Baltistan had the highest coverage, at an astounding 101 percent. According to officials, 98 percent of people in the federal capital, Islamabad, as well as those in Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and Azad Kashmir, have received vaccinations.

Approximately 422,152 children nationwide were still unvaccinated in spite of these statistics. Of them, about 355,000 youngsters were unavailable during the campaign, while 19,403 skipped vaccination owing to security concerns and local boycotts, sources revealed. In all, 47,793 occurrences involving boycotts were registered nationwide. Sindh had the highest number of unvaccinated children (216,881), followed by Punjab (82,792), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (68,529), and Balochistan (47,335), according to provincial breakdowns. According to authorities, 5,098 children in Islamabad did not receive the polio drops, while 647 youngsters in Azad Kashmir and 870 in Gilgit-Baltistan did not receive them.
