The Riyadh Metro has achieved an extraordinary milestone by transporting over 100 million passengers in less than nine months since its launch in December 2024. This rapid adoption underscores the system’s critical role in transforming urban mobility in Saudi Arabia’s capital. Operated by the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, the metro has maintained a remarkable on-time performance rate of 99.7%, ensuring reliability for commuters. The Blue Line, running along the Olaya–Batha corridor, emerged as the busiest route with 46.5 million riders, followed by the Red Line (17 million) and Orange Line (12 million). Key stations like Qasr Al-Hokm, KAFD, stc, and the National Museum handled over 29% of total ridership, highlighting their strategic importance in connecting commercial and cultural hubs.
The metro’s success is attributed to its seamless integration with Riyadh’s broader public transport network, including buses and on-demand services, which provide smooth door-to-door connectivity for residents and visitors. This system supports the city’s vision to reduce traffic congestion and promote sustainable transit options. As the world’s longest driverless metro network (176 km with 85 stations), it aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals to modernize infrastructure and enhance quality of life. The project’s efficiency and cultural relevance have made it a backbone of daily commuting, with future expansions already planned to further serve the growing city.
This achievement reflects Riyadh’s commitment to becoming a global model for urban mobility. By offering a reliable, modern alternative to car travel, the metro not only addresses environmental concerns but also fosters economic growth and social connectivity. Its rapid ridership growth signals a significant shift in public behavior toward embracing public transport, setting a precedent for other cities in the region.
