Shehbaz, Erdogan, and others support Trump’s peace initiative in Gaza.

President Trump organized the high-level gathering, and eight leaders from nations with a majority of Muslims were invited to address the “catastrophic” situation in war-torn Gaza, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of Qatar and the leader of the United States, co-hosted the conference. King Abdullah of Jordan, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey, President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia, Prime Minister Moustafa Kamal Madbouly of Egypt, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates, and Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, the Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia, were among the other leaders in attendance. It happened during the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

In the joint statement, the eight leaders reaffirmed their willingness to work with President Trump and emphasized how crucial his leadership is to bringing the war to a close and creating opportunities for a fair and sustainable peace. In this sense, they disapproved of Israel’s decision to force people to relocate within Gaza and the requirement that those who departed be permitted to return. They underlined the necessity of figuring out the specifics of a stabilizing strategy while maintaining security in the Holy Sites of Jerusalem and the West Bank. Although President Trump’s remarks during the meeting were not included in the joint statement, the American online newspaper POLITICO claims that the US president assured the leaders that he would not permit Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to seize the West Bank.

Trump was adamant about the issue, according to POLITICO, which cited “people familiar with the discussion.” The US president also pledged that Israel would not be let to take over the West Bank, which is ruled by the Palestinian Authority rather than Hamas. According to POLITICO, another person with knowledge of the negotiations stated that a truce to halt Israel’s nearly two-year war against Hamas was far from happening, even with Trump’s pledge. According to two other people with knowledge of the situation, Trump and his team unveiled a white paper detailing the administration’s strategy for ending the war, which included the annexation pledge as well as other specifics like postwar security and government.

Prior to his meeting with the eight leaders at the UN headquarters, Trump informed reporters that it was his “most important” engagement of the day. In an interview with News Channel on Tuesday night, Turkish President Erdogan called the meeting “fruitful,” although he did not provide further details. Trump and Erdogan will meet once more on Thursday in Washington. The joint statement stated that participants committed to working together to ensure the success of plans and to rebuild the lives of Palestinians in Gaza. They also stressed the importance of ensuring a comprehensive plan for reconstruction in Gaza, based on the Arab and OIC plan, as well as security arrangements, with international assistance supporting the Palestinian leadership.

They also underlined how crucial it is to keep up the pace in order to guarantee that this summit marks the start of a process that will lead to future peace and regional cooperation. Additionally present at the meeting were US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelattay, Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono, Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar, and Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrehman bin Jassim Al Thani. Steven Witkoff, the US President’s Special Envoy for the Middle East, and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent were also on President Trump’s team.
