Snow Moon to Light Up Night Sky on February 1, 2026

Moon in the sky

The second full moon of the year, known as the Snow Moon, will brighten the skies on February 1, 2026, offering a beautiful celestial display for viewers in the UAE and around the world.

The Snow Moon’s name comes from winter snow patterns in the Northern Hemisphere, where February is often among the snowiest months. Although the UAE does not experience snow, the full moon will still be a striking sight against clear desert skies.

In the UAE, the moon will reach peak illumination at approximately 5:36 pm Gulf Standard Time on February 1. It will appear full to the naked eye for several days before and after this peak, rising in the east-northeast at sunset and remaining visible throughout the night.

The Snow Moon will rise near the constellation Leo, and observers may also spot Jupiter as a bright point in the night sky. For the best viewing, skywatchers are encouraged to find areas away from city lights. With binoculars or a telescope, details such as lunar craters and dark plains (maria) will be visible.

No special equipment is needed, simply looking up will allow anyone to enjoy this gentle reminder of Earth’s natural rhythms.
