UAE: A man who neglected to pay his car rental fees was compelled to pay Dh20,174

The Al Ain Civil, Commercial and Administrative Court ruled that a young man who rented a car for 114 days and neglected to pay the remaining fees must pay Dh20,174 to the auto rental firm. According to court documents, the business rented the car to the defendant for Dh180 per day and filed a lawsuit claiming the outstanding balance. Traffic fines incurred during the lease period added Dh4,654 to the overall rental cost of Dh20,520. Only Dh5,000 had been paid by the defendant, leaving Dh20,174 unpaid.

According to Emarat Al Youm, he neglected to present a defense after being given time to do so and refused to make additional payments despite numerous reminders. The court clarified in its ruling that the renter is liable for any loss or damage resulting from carelessness or misuse, and that lease agreements give the lessor the right to payment upon the tenant’s use or ability to use the rented asset. The presented documents attested to the man’s signature on the rental agreement and his liability for the requested sum. The court determined that the claim was established since he did not present any convincing defense or proof that the obligation had been paid.

The defendant was ordered to pay Dh20,174 and legal fees after the court found in favor of the corporation.
