The UAE is set to witness a spectacular total lunar eclipse, commonly called a “Blood Moon,” on the night of September 7–8, 2025. Skywatchers across the country, including Dubai, will have a chance to see the moon turn a striking reddish hue as it passes through Earth’s shadow. The total eclipse phase, when the moon appears fully red, will last approximately 82 minutes, making it one of the longest lunar eclipses in recent years.
For the best viewing experience, experts recommend heading to dark-sky locations such as Mleiha National Park in Sharjah, Jebel Hafeet in Al Ain, or the Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve. The Dubai Astronomy Group will also stream the event online and provide special telescope views, including shots of the eclipse with the Burj Khalifa in the frame. No special equipment is needed to enjoy the eclipse with the naked eye, although photographers may want to use a tripod and telephoto lens for better shots.
The eclipse will begin with the penumbral phase at 7:28 PM GST, with totality occurring between 10:11 PM and 11:33 PM GST. The weather in Dubai is expected to be partly sunny with warm temperatures, providing clear skies for the event. Whether attending in person or watching online, residents are encouraged to mark their calendars for this rare celestial spectacle.
