During a discussion with prominent media, Bilawal Bhutto noted that a resolution for the creation of a new province had previously been passed by the Punjab Assembly and stated that the National Assembly also has cross-party consensus on some suggestions. “Let’s start where everyone already agrees before talking about 20 new provinces,” he said, calling for the prompt execution of outstanding recommendations. Bilawal went on to say that even if the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) didn’t even have a majority when the earlier agreement on new administrative units was reached, progress was still feasible. He said, “If the work was supposed to happen, it would have happened by now.”
Regarding local governance, Bilawal Bhutto cited the recently enacted local government system in Punjab and contrasted it with Sindh’s model, asserting that Sindh’s structure is still more robust and efficient. The PPP chairman reaffirmed that the only path forward is political reconciliation, cautioning that “issues naturally worsen” when provinces clash or parties reject communication. He emphasized that cooperation between parties is necessary for political stability, even under difficult circumstances. Bilawal Bhutto also went back to earlier political incidents, claiming that the PPP was the one who introduced the no-confidence resolution that deposed a prime minister for the first time.
He claimed that PTI’s actions were still “consistently problematic” and that the party’s founder continued to take a combative stance that strains the system. He made it clear that “the method is the problem” and that he has no personal animosity toward the PTI founder. He stated that the PTI’s provincial administration in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had “already failed,” making reconciliation more challenging. “The situation on the other side deteriorates whenever PPP prepares to take a step forward,” he said. Speaking about his political encounters, Bilawal Bhutto recalled seeing Nawaz Sharif at Kot Lakhpat Jail. He claimed that shortly after his release, Nawaz started criticizing the PPP and acknowledged that it is frequently hard for people to accept the PPP’s political position in Punjab.
He claimed he is not against other parties gaining power in Sindh and commended Maryam Nawaz for her “good performance” in Punjab. “I will undoubtedly become prime minister if the public votes,” he asserted with assurance.
